Inovia Vein’s Dr. Toshio Nagamoto to Present at the Age Better! Fall Conference in Portland

Toshio Nagamoto, MD

We are proud to announce that Dr. Toshio Nagamoto will be a featured presenter at the upcoming Age Better! Fall Conference hosted by SeaStar Senior Services. The event will take place on October 5, 2025, at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Portland.

Designed for seniors, caregivers, and care managers in the Portland and Southwest Washington community, this conference connects attendees with local experts and resources that support aging with confidence, care, and clarity.

About Dr. Nagamoto’s Lecture

Dr. Nagamoto’s lecture, “Tired Legs, Swollen Ankles, and Skin That Won’t Heal: Understanding Varicose Veins, Venous Disease and Lymphedema in Seniors”, is especially timely, taking place just days before World Thrombosis Day on October 13 – a global initiative to raise awareness about thrombosis, a condition that is often underestimated and misunderstood. Participating in this worldwide movement can help inspire positive change and ensure that more people are informed, protected, and empowered against this often silent and potentially life-threatening condition.

At the end of the session, participants will be able to:

1. Recognize common causes of leg swelling in older adults, including chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), lymphedema, and deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

2. Identify early warning signs of venous disease, including skin discoloration, itching, heaviness, and non-healing leg wounds (venous stasis ulcers).

3. Differentiate between venous swelling and lymphedema and understand how these conditions can overlap in older populations.

4. Understand when and how to refer patients to specialists, including vascular surgeons, wound care teams, or lymphedema therapists.

5. Support patients through ongoing care, including compression therapy, skincare, mobility, and access to community resources or home health.

Dr. Nagamoto, along with our team of expert and compassionate vein care providers at Inovia Vein, is dedicated to raising awareness among both community members and healthcare professionals. Many individuals live with vein-related conditions without realizing these issues are treatable – and that improving vascular health can significantly enhance mobility, independence, and overall quality of life.

Why This Topic Matters for Seniors

Vein disease is common yet frequently underdiagnosed, particularly among older adults. Symptoms such as leg pain, swelling in the feet or ankles, visible bulging veins, cramping or throbbing in the legs, itching around the legs or ankles, ankle discoloration, and non-healing leg ulcers may signal a more serious underlying condition. These issues can limit daily activities, reduce independence, and affect overall health. Without timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment, conditions like chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) can progress, potentially leading to serious complications.
