Varicose Veins are now much more treatable than ever before with no down-time office vein treatments. Varicose veins are swollen, twisted veins just under the skin on the lower legs. Your veins have one-way valves that help keep blood flowing toward your heart. When these valves become weak, blood can pool in the lower legs. this stretches out the veins and causes bulging varicose veins to be visible on the legs. When the veins stretch, it can cause ache, heaviness and pain in the legs. The legs can also swell. Long term, there can be skin changes in the lower legs such as brown or red discoloration by the ankles. Wounds can open that are slow to heal. Occasionally, these veins will form blood clots, known as phlebitis.
In the old days, this was treated with vein stripping. Those days are gone. The latest approaches, such as endovenous Closurefast RFA, Venaseal, and Varithena are all in office procedures that can be offered as no down-time solutions for varicose veins. They are done with a local anesthetic. The patient walk in, has the procedure, then walks out. Its generally fast and easy and the patient can return to activities the next day.
