March is Blood Clot Awareness Month, a time dedicated to helping the public understand the symptoms of blood clots and the importance of early medical evaluation. As part of its health coverage, KOHD, Central Oregon’s ABC affiliated news station, interviewed Dr. Cody Laverdiere of Inovia Vein Specialty Centers to provide viewers with clear, trustworthy information on this important topic.

Dr. Laverdiere specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of vein related conditions. In the interview, he explained how blood clots form, the early signs that may indicate a clot in the leg, and why timely evaluation can help prevent serious complications such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).

During the segment, Dr. Laverdiere discussed symptoms that should not be ignored, including leg swelling, pain, warmth, and discoloration. He also outlined common risk factors – such as long periods of sitting, recent travel, or underlying venous issues – and offered practical steps individuals can take to reduce their risk.

Dr. Laverdiere emphasized the importance of community awareness, stating:

“Raising awareness in our community is a central part of our mission. Blood clots can be serious, but many people don’t realize what the early signs look like. When someone notices new swelling, pain, or changes in their leg, it’s important not to ignore it. Getting evaluated by a provider who understands vein health can make a real difference. If you’re concerned you might have a blood clot of any kind, seeking expert care right away is the safest step you can take.”

Inovia Vein Specialty Centers provides comprehensive care for patients with venous disease, offering evaluation and treatment for conditions such as varicose veins, leg swelling, venous insufficiency, and concerns related to blood clots.
