Inovia Vein Specialty Centers Kicks Off World Thrombosis Day Outreach
Inovia Vein Specialty Centers is proud to kick off this year’s World Thrombosis Day outreach efforts, raising awareness about venous disease, varicose veins, lymphedema, and deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Through community events, educational presentations, and interactive booths, our board-certified surgeons and vein care specialists are helping seniors and community members better understand leg health.
Dr. Toshio Nagamoto Presents at Age Better! Senior Resource Fair
On October 5, 2025, Dr. Toshio Nagamoto, board-certified general surgeon, experienced vein specialist, and Director of Inovia Vein’s Northwest Portland clinic, presented at the Age Better! Senior Resource Fair at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Portland, OR. Over the past 30+ years, Dr. Nagamoto has developed extensive expertise in general surgery, trauma, vascular surgery, and robotic surgery. His presentation, titled:
“Tired Legs, Swollen Ankles, and Skin That Won’t Heal: Understanding Varicose Veins, Venous Disease, and Lymphedema in Seniors,”
sparked meaningful conversations and a dynamic Q&A session with attendees, helping seniors and caregivers better understand the signs, symptoms, and treatment options for venous insufficiency and related conditions.
Inovia Vein Educational Booth Highlights
In addition to Dr. Nagamoto’s presentation, Inovia Vein hosted an educational booth to provide community members with practical guidance on common leg vein problems, including:
• Leg pain, aching, or itching
• Foot and ankle swelling or discoloration
• Leg heaviness, throbbing, or cramping
• Bulging veins under the skin
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
We also highlighted medical-grade compression stockings, emphasizing the importance of proper fit for improving circulation, reducing swelling, and supporting overall leg health. Thanks to the support of SIGVARIS Group USA, attendees were able to learn how compression therapy can integrate into daily life and support long-term vein health.
Making Community Connections
Events like Age Better! offer a chance to connect with current and future patients. At our booth:
• One attendee shared that they had an upcoming consultation at our Tigard clinic, and it was exciting to meet them in person before their visit!
• Another visitor, previously treated at our Happy Valley clinic, shared how their vein care treatment was life-changing, moving comfortably and confidently while recounting their experience.
These interactions highlight the importance of community engagement and early education about vein health, as well as the impact of timely treatment on quality of life.
Raising Awareness About Lymphedema, DVT, and Venous Disease
A key focus of Inovia Vein’s outreach at this event was to educate seniors and community members about the progression of venous disease and DVT, which are often misunderstood or undiagnosed. By providing expert guidance, we aim to:
• Improve early recognition of venous insufficiency and deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
• Raise awareness of the potentially life-threatening risks associated with DVT
• Explain common signs and symptoms of leg vein problems, including varicose veins and non-healing leg wounds
• Educate on treatment options, including minimally invasive procedures and medical-grade compression therapy
• Support collaboration with community partners, caregivers, and healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
Thank You to Event Organizers and Partners
We sincerely thank Niki Tucker, LMSW, CMC, Conference Director, and the SeaStar Senior Services team for organizing this impactful community event. Their dedication to providing seniors and caregivers with resources, education, and connection makes outreach like this possible.
We also appreciate SIGVARIS Group USA for supporting our efforts to educate our communities on compression stockings and their role in managing venous disease.
